value and shading 12/12/19

inquiry question: How does an artist use value to create dimensions to a piece?

the apple I shaded

the apple we used to shade (second resource)

Reflections: During this lesson, I learned a new element of art that is value or in other words shading. while following the teacher's instructions we shaded an apple but the apple was already printed out so we didn't have to draw the apple we just shaded it.
While shading I need to consider the way I hold my pencil and it need to be shaded in one direction so that the starchy lines do not appear and also how much pressure we put on our pencil and speaking about pencils we also had to use the right pencil for shading we used 2B and for outlining the lines we used HB

W.W.W-I was able to clearly follow the teacher's instruction without making too many mistakes and not using erasers and my final product of the apple looks 3D.

E.B.I-it would be better if I can curve my lines to make it appear more 3D because I don't think I curved my lines enough they are a bit straight

  1. sp) scratchy

Great work - you have achieved three tones - dark, medium and light. with limited scratchy lines. How did you shade? what direction and why?
    what is a highlight?
